21 April 2006 Stags and hens 'travel without insurance'
Yesterday saw the public accounts committee hear that many people who travel abroad on stag and hen parties do so without the necessary financial protection.
The Foreign Office released details to the committee stating that around half of people travelling in these groups are not equipped with holiday insurance.
In addition, the office stated that 31 per cent of people took photocopies of their passports rather than the passport itself.
In response to the news that many British nationals were causing consular officials extra work, Edward Leight, the Conservative chairman of the committee, argued that partygoers should be charged for the Foreign Office's services.
However, the department itself has stated that it does not want to go down this route.
The Foreign Office also stated that those participating in stag and hen dos should ensure that they have the correct paperwork in place, which includes holiday insurance and other travel documents.
Egg has found that people spend a combined total of £430 on stag and hen parties each year.
