20 March 2007 Standard of travel sites 'continues to increase'
A web marketing group and host of the WebAwards competition has released its report of internet standards in order to help the travel industry design more informative and appealing websites for travellers.
The Web Marketing Association reports that it judges sites on seven categories, including content, copywriting, design, ease of use, innovation, interaction and technology.
William Rice, president of the association, said: "As the standard of excellence for websites continues to increase, consumers and WebAward judges are increasingly picky about what they consider to be an effective website."
He added that the trend in the industry was towards the creation of sites that offer information about all aspects of holidays in one place, including destinations, hotels, places to see and car rental.
Previous winners of the Best Travel WebAward have included Hospitality eBusiness Strategies, Aristotle and Thomas Cook.
Earlier this year, consumer magazine Holiday Which? advised Britons to go online to tour operators' website and compare prices to find the best deals.
