12 April 2007 Start of 'low cost era' for New York flights
Britons wanting to travel to the US at a cheaper price than has previously been available may be interested in the launch of budget London to New York fares.
Zoom Airlines reports that from the 21st June it will be offering flights from London Gatwick to JFK Airport in New York from £129.
Booking for the flights will operate on a system of one-way flexible fairs and include designated seating and meals.
John Boyle, co-owner of the firm, said: "Our catchphrase is 'Now you're sitting comfortably' and we think this will appeal to people who, quite frankly, have been forced to pay outrageously high fares to fly between London and New York for too long."
He added that the firm was offering prices up to 70 per cent lower than some other operators.
In August 2005, Barclays reported that Britons spent £275 million shopping in New York on their travels in the past year.
