30 November 2005 Storm leaves seven dead in Canaries
A tropical storm has ravaged the Canary Islands, leaving at least seven people dead and a trail of destruction in its wake.
The popular holiday destination has been left without power in some parts, roads have been blocked by fallen trees and landslides, and hundreds of people were stranded at the islands' main airports.
Around 200,000 people are without electricity, although regional government official Jose Miguel Ruano said that power was expected to be returned by nightfall.
Six African migrants drowned after their makeshift boat was engulfed by waves, reports the BBC, and another man died while trying to fix his roof in Fuerteventura.
Tropical storm Delta formed north of the usual hurricane zone and was pushed east rather than westwards due to prevailing weather patterns.
The storm adds to an already record breaking hurricane season, which officially ends on Wednesday.
Morocco is now expected to be hit by the storm, although in a much weaker state than the strength with which it struck the Canary Islands.
