16 July 2005 TSR forecasts more extreme weather
The organisation Tropical Storm Risk (TSR) has issued a warning that there could be as many as 15 more tropical storms to come this summer.
Hurricane Dennis, which had devastating consequences for holiday resorts in Cuba and Florida, was the first hurricane in the region during the month of July for 89 years.
TSR scientist Mark Saunders told the Telegraph: "This is the highest July forecast for activity in any year since 1950."
Of the 15 storms predicted by TSR, nine are set to be hurricanes, so visitors to destinations such as Florida, Cuba and Japan, should take the appropriate precautions before travelling.
Last year, the US was hit by four serious storms that provoked a significant rise in insurance claims.
