21 January 2006 Tel Aviv bombing leaves dozens hurt
Over two dozen people have been left injured after a suicide bomber detonated explosives he was carrying in a busy commercial section of Tel Aviv.
Only the suicide bomber is reported to have died in the blast, which occurred inside a popular fast food restaurant on Thursday afternoon.
More people could have been hurt in the attack, reports state, had the bomber not blown himself up towards the back of the restaurant where fewer people were sitting.
A video made by the bomber before the attack claims that he was "offering himself to avenge the blood of matyrs" shed during Israeli attacks on Palestinians.
Condemning the attacks, Palestinian Authority (PA) president Mahmoud Abbas said: "This terrorist attack aims to disrupt the open atmosphere leading up to democratic elections and sabotage the measures the PA is taking to maintain security and calm in the occupied Palestinian territory."
The bombing is the seventh of its kind aimed at Israelis since Palestinian militants declared an unofficial truce in February last year.
Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the attack, which Israeli officials believe was funded by Iran and planned by Syria.
