04 April 2006 Thailand to attract ecotourists
Travellers planning to head to Thailand in 2007 will have something new to explore as a brand new ecotourism park venture is to be launched in Pattaya, it has been announced.
Aimed at both overseas tourists and Thai visitors, the Silver Lake Leisure Park will be set in mountains around the already popular seaside resort of Pattaya, in eastern Thailand, the Bangkok Post reports.
Chairman of Pattaya Vineyard Co, Surachai Tangjaitrong, expressed the belief that there were "bright prospects for the leisure park as it was located in Pattaya" which he said was "a popular destination for both Thai and international tourists".
The venture is being developed by a joint Australian-Thai partnership as part of a five year project to build 50 ecotourism leisure parks across Thailand.
The park, which will be set around a lake and a vineyard, is to be designed as an ecotourism destination, hopefully attracting new tourists to the well-used resort of Pattaya, which has been popular with foreign visitors since it was first discovered by American servicemen during the Vietnam War.
