27 June 2007 Thailand tourist figures on the up
The number of Britons visiting Thailand during 2006 increased by almost ten per cent over the previous year, it has been reported, with November and December being the busiest months for those heading to the country.
According to statistics from the Tourism Authority of Thailand (Tat), 745,525 Britons visited Thailand last year, a rise of 9.48 on the figures for 2005.
December saw 86,210 UK residents travel to the country, while in the previous month, 69,065 made their way to Thailand.
Tanes Petsuwan, director of Tat London, said: "We are delighted with Thailand's progress.
"Tat far exceeded its target of 700,000 UK visitors with a large influx towards the end of the year."
He added that credit must be given to the authority's partners whose work has resulted in these positive tourism statistics.
In July 2006, MyCallcredit reported that Thailand is the seventh riskiest foreign card fraud destination, below the US, France, Spain and Turkey in the list.
