13 August 2005 Thousands affected by Heathrow bedlam
Heathrow was plunged into chaos after British Airways decided to cancel all incoming and outgoing flights until at least 20:00 on Friday.
On Thursday, more than 100 flights failed to take to the skies, causing disruption to some 15,000 passengers at terminals 1 and 4.
Friday promised to be even worse, with as many as 550 flights grounded, leaving 70,000 people stranded.
The decision to cancel flights came after ground staff went on an unofficial strike in support of sacked catering workers from Gate Gourmet.
Problems have stretched to other airlines that use BA ground staff, including Qantas, Sri Lankan, GB, British Mediterranean and Finnair.
Any passengers who had flights scheduled for Friday have been urged not to travel to Heathrow, but to contact their airline or travel agent instead.
