25 March 2008 Three-week Easter 'means more bargains'
This year, Easter fell early on in spring and roughly two million Britons headed off on early breaks to Easter holiday destinations over the March bank holiday weekend, according to the Association of British Travel Agents (Abta).
The association reports that 450,000 people travelled through Heathrow, with approximately 260,000 due to have departed from Gatwick.
In the north of England and the Midlands, 100,000 Brits were predicted to have travelled to Easter holiday destinations from Manchester Airport.
And according to Abta, this Easter holiday destination rush is by no means over.
Abta notes that the school holidays are split, meaning that many families took short bank holiday breaks before they go on two-week holidays during April.
Justin Fleming, president of Abta, noted that the extended peak period "has also seen a flattening out of prices, which has increased the number of holiday bargains for this time of year".
