29 June 2006 Top-50 poll shows Americans holidaying at home
Priceline.com has today confirmed that most American travellers would prefer to 'holiday at home'.
The survey found Chicago's Millennium Park to be the most popular summer destination for 2006, with Chicago's North Michigan Avenue area taking second place, reports Business Wire today.
Rather than relying on consumer polls, the Priceline.com survey of the 50 most popular holiday destinations based its findings upon more than 100,000 actual booking requests made between June 15 and August 16, 2006.
'We are thrilled that travellers are choosing Chicago's Millennium Park as one of their favourite destinations.
'Millennium Park offers visitors world-class art and architecture as well as a tremendous line-up of free performances,' commented Dorothy Coyle, director of the Chicago office of tourism.
The survey found international destinations to be far less popular in 2006 than in previous years.
While the catastrophic slump in foreign tourism after 9/11 has not occurred, many Americans are clearly not as conformable with foreign travel as they have been in the past.
