28 September 2007 Toronto is "number one" Canadian getaway for Brits
Toronto has been declared the number one getaway spot in Canada for Britons - by its own tourism website.
The claim from Toronto Tourism comes as the organisation announces two new major international awareness campaigns to promote the region's draw as a "cosmopolitan" and "stylish" destination for UK and Mexican holidaymakers.
According to the tourism bureau, tourists from the UK make up Toronto's top international demographic - 300,000 overnight visitors from the UK came to the region in 2006.
"Toronto is the number one Canadian urban destination for travellers from both the UK and Mexico," commented David Whitaker, president of Tourism Toronto.
He added that the agency was "confident" that the new drive would continue to increase international visitors to Toronto, noting that it targets "high-value customers" who stay longer and spend more money.
