01 February 2006 Tourist bus crash leaves 14 dead
A bus crash has left 14 tourists dead and 30 others wounded in southern Egypt.
The Hong Kong tourists were travelling between the Red Sea resort of Hurghada to the southern Nile city of Luxor when their bus careered off the motorway and overturned.
Mena, the Egyptian news agency, reported that the accident occurred after the bus driver drove the vehicle at too high a speed around a corner, causing him to lose control.
The injured have been rushed to hospitals in Hurghada, some in a serious condition.
Another accident involving a tourist bus in Egypt earlier this month left six dead and 24 wounded after their bus overturned in rainy conditions.
According to the BBC, Egypt has one of the highest traffic accident rates in the world, with an average of 6,000 Egyptians dying each year on the roads.
