07 November 2007 Tourists 'flock to Cambodia'
An increasing number of holidaymakers are travelling to Cambodia, new figures show.
In research released by tourism officials, arrivals to the country were up by 19 per cent during the first three-quarters of this year, in comparison to the same period in 2006, reports Agence France Presse.
At a biannual investment and trade meeting, prime minister Hun Sen said: "We expect tourist arrivals to reach two million in 2007."
Over the course of last year, the Asian country posted tourist arrivals of some 1.7 million.
Mr Sen added that the surge in tourism levels has seen an increase in construction as builders look to meet ever-rising demand for hotels.
Meanwhile, the government gave the green light to plans for a number of high-end resorts, worth a total of $627 million (£298 million), to be constructed on islands along the country's south coast.
Last month, the International Air Transport Association reported that levels of international air travel are set to rise.
