28 July 2005 Tourists left stranded by airline administration
As many as 5,000 tourists are thought to be stranded abroad after budget airline EUjet filed for administration and cancelled all flights.
Shares in Planestation, the company that owns EUjet and Manston airport, were suspended on Monday, before all flights were stopped on Tuesday.
EUjet chief executive PJ McGoldrick said in a statement to staff: "It is with regret I must advise you that EUjet has had no alternative but with immediate effect to suspend all airline operations and appoint an administrator in Ireland."
Passengers were left stranded at Manston airport in Kent, and were forced to seek out alternative airlines to reach their destinations.
EUjet had aircraft flying to 18 different destinations and had only been in operation since September 2004, but low levels of passengers plunged the airline into difficulty.
