18 December 2007 Traditional farm Christmas for families
For a "1900s Family Christmas Adventure", holidaymakers should head for a family-run farm in Nebraska, US.
According to the Associated Press, a number of farm families in the state are offering people the option of an old-fashioned Christmas complete with chores, cooking, baking cookies and cutting down a Christmas tree.
Holidaymakers with a strong stomach can even learn how to skin deer.
The news comes after responsibletravel.com recently revealed that consumers are increasingly looking to experience "authentic" holidays.
"People want to really experience a place, to try local foods and meet local people and learn about the real culture at the heart of a community and destination," a spokesperson said.
The Associated Press notes that as well as Nebraska, this type of "agri-tourism" is catching on in South Dakota, Kansas and Missouri, with hunting and fishing packages available.
