24 April 2007 Travel book 'encourages solo women to journey now'
A recently published travel guide will encourage women to head abroad now in preference to waiting until they meet a travel partner, it has been claimed.
Wanderlust and Lipstick, published last month by the Globe Trekker Press, aims to offer advice and inspiration for independent female travellers, as women have increasing amounts of disposable income and free time to see the world.
Beth Whitman, author of the book, said: "With the growing trend of women travellers, from young backpackers to older widows and divorcees, this book is meant to encourage women to hit the road now."
She added that at present there is a lack of available information for women looking to travel alone.
Last summer, research from Portman Building Insurance revealed that women tend to travel in same-sex groups into their later years, while men will often opt to travel alone.
