18 June 2005 Travel insurance a holiday must-have
A new checklist has been compiled to ensure that people who are off on their travels are not making any essential oversights.
The five-point guide, put together by American Express Travel Insurance, focuses on the fundamentals to make sure you can enjoy your time away.
To cover the greatest number of eventualities, the priority is travel insurance, without which your dream trip could soon turn in to your worst nightmare.
The advice also recommends appropriate vaccinations and medication, taking a mobile phone in case of emergencies, and keeping travellers' cheques and credit cards at hand.
Joanne Field, marketing manager at American Express Travel Insurance, said: "Around 37 million of us now travel independently and given the time and thought we put into planning holidays it is worrying that so many of us forget the basics and travel without insurance or with an inadequate level of cover."
According to the Foreign & Commonwealth Office the travel sector has expanded by almost a third within the past five years, yet one in seven people still go abroad without travel insurance.
