03 October 2006 Travel insurance advice published for adventurers
Holidaymakers have been advised to check the details of their single or multi-trip travel insurance carefully to make sure they are properly covered for their activities.
The advice comes from American Express, who also recommend that travellers properly inform their insurers best they can of their plans abroad, so they can purchase adequate cover for their trip.
Activities from bungee jumping and microlighting to quadbiking and parachuting can be covered by standard travel insurance policies, or instead require the purchase of extra cover.
American Express warns that some sports, such as parascending and paragliding, can be confused, with the activities having varying risks and travel insurance requirements.
Joanne Field, marketing manager at the company, said: "Sports enthusiasts are advised to check the small print of their insurance policies to ensure that any sports equipment they take is fully covered as well as the activities they plan to try."
In the past, the British Insurance Brokers' Association has also advised that UK holidaymakers purchase sufficient travel insurance and check the details for any relevant exclusions.
