16 August 2006 Travel insurance 'covers laptops'
Holidaymakers forced to check in valuable items last week during hand-luggage bans may be covered under their insurance policy.
Considering the unusual circumstances of Thursday's alleged terror plots, insurers may allow policy holders to claim for damage to electronic items, CNN reports.
During the raids, electronic devices, including ipods, mobile phones and laptops were prohibited from the aircraft cabin.
While under normal circumstances valuable items that are checked in are not covered by insurers, a spokeswoman for the Association of British Insurers told CNN claims were being dealt with "as sympathetically as possible" and on a "case-by-case basis".
Earlier this week the strict baggage control rules ? which disallowed all but travel documents, some prescription medication and baby food ? were lifted.
Travellers are now permitted to carry a laptop-sized bag and some liquids on board flights.
However, airports have reported their sixth day of delays today, with airlines including British Airways and Ryanair cancelling a number of flights.
