10 September 2005 Travel insurance to cover hygiene problems
Senior management at hotels across the world are being blamed for failing to maintain adequate hygiene standards.
A survey carried out by travel hygiene experts Check Safety First has revealed hotels are failing to provide regular hygiene training to staff, which could pose a risk to travellers.
Travel cover is vital for anyone going overseas to ensure that you are covered if you do happen to fall ill whilst away.
Steve Tate, chief executive of Check Safety First, said: "Inconsistency of hygiene standards is a major problem.
"Senior people must become more involved to ensure hotels are effectively minimizing the threat that substandard hygiene can pose to guests."
The majority of hotels realised the importance of high hygiene standards, yet 41 per cent had no plan in place to deal with the potential of hygiene-related illness.
The report covered hotels in the Balearics, Canaries, Dominican Republic, Mexico and Spain.
