16 March 2006 Travel insurance urged for overseas weddings
A growing number of Brits are choosing to marry abroad, a new survey has found.
Roughly a quarter of British couples are opting for a wedding in a foreign country, more than double the number who chose to do so a decade ago, the survey for Direct Line Home Insurance found.
For those planning a wedding abroad, whether to escape irritating relatives or simply to marry in a warmer climate, adequate cover is urged to ensure that the financial cost and headache of any problems are kept to a minimum.
"Affordable airfares, a sense of adventure and the drudgery of British weather mean that overseas weddings are more popular than they have ever been," commented Direct Line's Simon Ziviani.
Cheap airfares were cited as being one of the driving factors behind the growing number choosing to marry abroad as the cost of going abroad is declining.
