09 September 2005 Travel insurance vital for weekends away
Nearly a quarter of stag and hen weekends abroad end in some sort of trouble, according to new research.
The study carried out by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) shows that travel trouble has affected 24 per cent of Brits whilst away.
Half lost or had stolen their money or credit cards, a third suffered illness or injury and a quarter got on the wrong side of the law.
The problems were compounded by the fact that less than half of those going away had satisfactory travel cover.
The FCO's Steve Jewitt-Fleet commented: "Thousands of stag and hen parties are held abroad each year and most return having had a great time.
"However by their very nature, with guests out to 'let their hair down' they are at high risk of getting into problems.
"Many of these situations can be avoided if every individual in the group makes a few simple preparations before they travel."
