09 January 2008 Travel websites 'receive rise in post-Christmas holiday interest'
There has been a notable increase in traffic to travel websites in the post-Christmas period, it has been reported.
According to Analyst weblog Hitwise Intelligence, airlines, travel agents and accommodation providers all receive a boost in visits to their online domain in the new year.
The weblog reports that this could be the result of poor weather, making Brits think about holidays to warmer destinations.
Top flight search items on the internet in the week ending December 29th were for flights to Australia and flights to New York as well as cheap flights to New York, flights to Tenerife and cheap flights to Australia.
Meanwhile, the blog also reported that during the festive period in 2007, the amount of Britons looking on the internet for post-Christmas sales increased threefold.
Sainsbury's Bank recently reported that 12 million Brits will book holidays by the end of February 2008.
