05 October 2005 Travellers advised over Bali
Travellers are being warned, in the aftermath of the most recent Bali terrorist attacks, to take whatever precautions are necessary and to heed local advice in the area.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has advised of Bali's high terrorism risk since the Kuta bombings in 2002, and only as recently as July 2004 did it relax its warning of only essential travel to the country.
The FCO has now stated: "People still intending in the immediate future to travel to Bali should review thoroughly information on the local situation, and ensure they are taking full precautions and following local advice."
Bali has long been a popular tourist destination, especially among backpackers.
The Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) estimates that 1,000 British people were on the island at the time of the attacks.
Two Brits were among the 26 fatalities and 90 injuries sustained in the bombs at Jimbaran beach and Central Kuta.
