13 August 2007 Travellers 'looking to explore sustainably'
Increasing numbers of travellers are looking to reduce the impact of their journeys on the environment, it has been reported.
The annual Travellers' Pulse survey from Lonely Planet reveals that 84 per cent of travellers would consider offsetting the carbon emissions from their trips in the future, compared to 31 per cent who have done so in the past.
Furthermore, 70 per cent of travellers have opted to alter their mode of transportation to reduce their carbon footprint, while 90 per cent plan on potentially doing so in the future.
A spokesperson for the travel advice firm said: "It's fantastic to see that travellers are consciously considering their impacts and are willing to alter their actions to protect the destinations they love."
He added that the firm is looking forward to observing if these good intentions are in fact fulfilled in the future.
In June 2007, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs launched a carbon calculator to aid consumers in measuring their own or their household's carbon footprint.
