02 September 2005 Travellers take technology to stay entertained
British tourists are increasingly turning to technology to beat travel boredom, according to new research by Intel.
The average holidaymaker has 32 hours of 'bad weather time' to occupy themselves, while 12 per cent reveal they get bored on holiday even if the weather is good.
As a result, more people are packing valuable electronic items to entertain themselves whilst away.
Some 13 per cent of Brits take their laptop on holiday so that they can watch DVDs and be connected to the internet to send emails from abroad.
In addition to laptops, 40 per cent take a portable music player away with them, 14 per cent pack a portable DVD player, and three per cent include their Blackberry.
Chris Hogg, UK head of marketing at Intel, commented: "New technology means more and more people are opting to stay switched on even when they’re 'turning off' and relaxing."
