Some travellers on the lookout for a more intimate holiday than a traditional hotel break are looking into house-swapping as a means of feeling more at home when abroad, it has been reported
Holidaymakers can imitate the characters of Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz in forthcoming movie The Holiday by "swapping" their own property for a fixed amount of time and moving in to someone else's abroad, The Digsville Home Exchange Club explains.
Helen Bergstein, founder of the club, said: "Fans of house swapping are looking for something more intimate, something that makes them feel like they're not a tourist and home exchange does that."
She added that holidaymakers can often feel more at ease living in a traditional home compared to hotel accommodation and find it easier to make friends on holiday.
Last year, Halifax reported that British are the most likely to follow the lead in The Holiday and have a romantic fling when abroad.
