07 June 2006 Travellers warned to read small print
Travellers should be warned that even if they take out travel insurance there may be certain losses which they are not covered for.
Travel site, nst.com, strongly recommends holidaymakers to read the small print on their travel insurance especially if planning to journey in more exotic locations or try out some extreme activities.
Elements of cover which travellers should be wary of include travel in war torn areas, as loss or damage due to revolution, riot or civil war won't be covered by general holiday insurance, nor will travelling against medical advice.
Holidaymakers should also bear in mind that pre-existing medical conditions will not be covered by their travel insurance policy and pregnant women should be aware that any complications arising from their pregnancy will not be covered either.
Travellers should always look after their sexual health when they are away too, as illness arising from this again is not covered by travel insurance policies.
The Foreign & Commonwealth Office runs a safety campaign entitled Know Before You Go to encourage British nationals to prepare before travelling overseas to avoid common risks and dangers.
