18 May 2007 Travelling without insurance 'a risk not worth taking'
Britons have been advised that to go abroad without any sort of travel insurance is a risk not worth taking, while it has been reported that there are many products available offering the right level of cover at an affordable price.
The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has advised holidaymakers to compare different travel insurance policies on the amount of protection they provide rather than solely on their cost.
Malcolm Tarling, a spokesperson for the ABI, commented that more expensive travel insurance products will often offer more benefits, but that these aren't necessarily required by all travellers.
"There is a bigger problem of people going without cover," he said.
"Three in ten customers travel abroad without insurance and they really are taking a hell of a risk that isn't worth taking."
In March 2007, More Than reported that over £6 billion was wasted by British travellers cancelling their holiday plans during 2006 and urged consumers to purchase insurance when booking their trips to ensure they are financially protected if forced to alter their plans.
