05 March 2008 UK is 'pricey but popular' for holidays
The UK has retained its position as one of the world most sought-after holiday destinations, despite rising costs, it has been revealed.
According to the Global Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report, an international study arranged by the World Economic Forum, the UK is the sixth most competitive country in terms of tourism.
Other traditional destinations such as Switzerland, Austria, Germany and Spain also featured on the list, while emerging destinations like Australia, Canada and Sweden also made the register.
"Although the UK's improvement reflects a good performance in areas such as environmental sustainability and air transport infrastructure there are still causes for concern," Adrian Foster, vice-president Booz Allen Hamilton said according to TravelMole.
He stated that the UK has to improve on price competitiveness as it currently places at 127th place, making it one of the most expensive countries to visit.
