18 March 2008 US is emerging destination for shopping holidays
The US is an emerging destination for Britons looking to stock up on shopping at a low cost, it has been reported.
A number of people are increasingly taking advantage of the weak dollar by enjoying shopping trips to the United States, Frances Tuke, of the Association of British Travel Agents (Abta), has commented.
TheSite.org reports that the growth in budget travel has enabled Britons to spend cash on shopping overseas, with nearly a quarter of Britons opting to Christmas shop abroad.
"You've got to be careful about your tax limit, but otherwise it's a good place to go shopping," Ms Tuke commented.
She added that now seems like the time to go shopping in the US as the dollar has been "quite low for a while now".
Abta represents in excess of 6,000 travel agencies and 850 tour operations in the British Isles.
