05 February 2008 Uganda tourism 'needs shot in the arm'
The Uganda government needs to invest further into tourism, it has been argued.
According to allAfrica.com's the Monitor, the National Export Strategy claimed that "low government involvement" in tourism is a significant hurdle for Uganda.
It reports that Edwin Muzahura a marketing expert in Uganda believes that tourists come to Uganda by accident at present.
It is argued that more tourism resources are required in Uganda as it is a "priority export" as tourism is "the world's largest industry".
Meanwhile, tourism can also offer employment to more than 250,000 Ugandans if more resources were allocated to the sector.
It was recently reported by gapyear.com that Africa is one of the most popular places for gap year placements.
"Africa is one of the more popular places, mainly because there are a lot of amazing animal projects out there," Tom Griffiths, founder of gapyear.com, said.
