16 October 2007 Virgin Atlantic: Airlines must "show what can be done"
According to a spokesperson from Virgin Atlantic, while aviation is a "small contributor" to climate change, the industry must "show what can be done" about it.
Paul Charles, director of communications at Virgin Atlantic, stated that it was extremely important to find new clean fuel as well as innovative technologies in the fight to reduce carbon emissions.
He added that biofuel is one example of such a move against carbon emissions.
"Biofuel clearly helps, if the demonstrations go well, in reducing emissions because biofuel would produce - we hope - lower emissions, lower carbon and lower C02 and that would help on the ground and in the air," commented Mr Charles.
He added that fewer emissions produced would be beneficial for local communities on the ground as well as the airport and those in the air.
In related news, Virgin Atlantic and Boeing recently began a partnership to develop the 787-9 Dreamliner which burns roughly 27 per cent less fuel per passenger than the A340-300.
