06 September 2006 VisitScotland chief welcomes first private tourism outfit
The chief executive of Scotland's national tourist body VisitScotland, has welcomed the areas first privately-led tourist outfit ? Destination Management.
Working in the Cairngorms area and covering the countryside from Dalwhinnie to Granton-on-Spey, Destination Management will work with local businesses and the local community to promote tourism in the area - which could be suited to older citizens.
Destination Management will receive funding from the VisitScotland Challenge Fund.
Speaking on BBC Radio Scotland's Good Morning Scotland, VisitScotland chief executive, Philip Riddle, said: "This is a very welcome venture because the future is all about partnership, it's all about us working together and this is a good example of that, it's about us working together at a local level, fitting in with the national agenda and the national strategy.
"We do the marketing, we sell Scotland as a unique experience."
Destination Management will fit into the "national context", rather than competing with other regions in Scotland, Mr Riddle added.
On the back of a determined advertising campaign by VisitScotland, Scotland is rising in popularity as a holiday destination.
The funicular railway is part of the cause of a recent tourist upsurge in the Cairngorm region, reports the Herald.
