17 September 2007 Waiter Race in Belgium
Keep your aprons on for the annual Brussels Waiter Race in Esplanade du Cinquantenaire.
Taking place this year from September 22nd - 23rd, this race of maitre d's and sommeliers is for professionals only, events site What's On When reports.
However, if you are in Brussels to be waited on rather than to offer up your table service skills then there is still plenty to do during the two-day festival.
What's On When reports that the Parc du Cinquantenaire will be teeming with markets and music, complete with a brass band.
Furthermore, wine tasting marquees will be erected. However the event not to miss is of course the race itself, which occurs in the torchlight of the evening.
Each waiter races with a tray of liquor and three full glasses - the winner being the one to finish the race first without spilling the drinks.
Aside from waiter racing, Brussels is an historic European city and is popular with tourists wishing to see its churches, museums and monuments.
