30 December 2005 Wildfires hit Texas
Travellers to the US have been warned over the danger of wildfires as they spread across the southern states of the country.
Residents in Texas and Oklahoma have been fleeing for their lives as flames have swept across the states, leaving nearly 200 devastated homes in their wake.
The fires are being fanned by strong winds, making it difficult for firefighters to tackle the blazes, and more gales are expected over the weekend, meaning many more people could be in danger.
Children playing with fireworks, as well as discarded cigarettes, have been blamed by the authorities for the outbreaks, the BBC reports.
Cross Plains in Texas suffered the brunt of the fires, with 1,000 inhabitants evacuated, while the flames are known to have taken at least five lives so far across the US.
