08 August 2006 Women prefer to 'go it alone'
Around a third of women would prefer to go on holiday alone, according to a new survey into the holidaying habits of Brits.
The study, which was conducted by specialists in holidays for single travellers, Just You, found that the annual summer trip rather than being relaxing is often fertile ground for arguments and rows, with nearly two-thirds of people admitting to falling out with their travel companion while they are away.
Even before the holidays begin one in five women has disagreed with their partner about where they want to go, with 12 per cent confessing that the summer trip always ends in argument.
According to relationship support organisation Relate, there is a significant increase in the number of calls from couples seeking help in September, to solve post-holiday issues.
Paula Hall, Relate counsellor and relationship psychotherapist, commented: "Holidays don't cause relationship problems, they simply draw attention to existing difficulties.
"When couples take time out from their usual routines any problems come under the spotlight."
The survey also revealed that women are increasingly choosing more adventurous and alternative breaks with a third stating that exploring new cultures is an important aspect of a holiday.
