05 March 2008 Women 'taking charge' with holiday bookings
More women are taking up the reins and organising the booking of holidays overseas, it has been noted.
Responsibletravel.com reveals that in 2007, 67 per cent of holidays were booked by women, according to TravelMole.
The comment comes ahead of International Women's Day which takes place on March 8th 2008.
"It's long been recognised that women wear the trousers when it comes to holiday decisions but this shows a real concern to choose ethical travel over mass tourism," Justin Francis, co-founder of responsibletravel.com said.
The study also showed that women are becoming increasingly keen to travel overseas alone.
According to the study, 37 per cent of women booked to travel alone on holidays in 2007.
Responsibletravel.com offers holidays to traditional destinations and emerging destinations and is run by people who "care about" holidays and the environment.
