19 October 2006 Youth hostels recommended to holidaymakers
Holidaymakers travelling to Scotland are being advised of the social benefits of staying in a youth hostel on their break.
Euro Hostels attempts to bridge the gap of backpacker hostels and budget hotels, and currently operates buildings in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
The company's Glasgow hostel has over 360 beds in en-suite rooms, with a WiFi enabled bar, television lounges, games areas, a guest kitchen, dining room and internet facilities.
Euro Hostels notes: "There's no need to share a room, but the option is there. There is no hotel stuffiness and the staff is actually encouraged to socialise with the guests.
"This is the attitude difference that is so noticeable."
Last month Direct Line Travel warned that despite fears of muggings while on holiday that 24 per cent of victims of theft on holiday had items taken from their holiday room, which could potentially be more likely in a shared room.
