31 May 2006 2 million Brits escape wet weekend
Two million Brits expected to flee the rainy weather this bank holiday weekend in search of sunnier climes.
According to the Association of British Travel Agents, Spain, the Canary Islands, the Balearics and Portugal are all expected to see large number of UK tourists over the next few days.
With the weather in these popular destinations promising to be much more in tune with the season, Brits are leaving their homes in droves, the ABTA says.
Some 1.5 million passengers are expected to pass through the country's airports this weekend, with a further 600,000 crossing the Channel, according to figures seen by the Guardian.
For the many people expected to look out of the window and make a last minute decision to leave the country this bank holiday.
