22 August 2006 22% of Brits plan last minute trips
It has been reported that over 10.7 million people in Britain plan their summer holidays at the last minute.
These findings are based on a survey of 1,000 British people asked about their future holiday plans in June and July.
Robert O'May, manager at Sainsbury's Bank, has expressed concerns that in booking summer breaks so close to departure that people will forgo the purchase of travel cover.
"Worryingly people are not just adding to the cost of their trips, if disaster strikes and they are not insured, the true cost could end up being much more than the holiday itself."
Research undertaken by the company in May suggested that eight per cent of all summer holidays taken in the UK are uninsured, meaning that around 860,000 people a year are not covered.
