11 December 2007 4m visit Vietnam
The south-east Asian country of Vietnam has welcomed four million tourists to its land in 2007, it has been revealed.
In total, the number of international arrivals is expected to hit 4.3 million before the end of the year according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, the AFP reports.
This figure would represent an increase of 700,000 visitors compared to last year.
A welcoming ceremony was held for US holidaymaker Michael Davis Magidson at Hanoi's Noi Bai airport as he became the four millionth visitor to the country last week.
"We look forward to seeing your beautiful country," the holidaymaker commented.
Vietnam is popular as a backpacker destination but is now trying to cash in on the tourism industry by promoting itself to foreign holidaymakers - aiming to attract six million foreign visitors annually ahead of 2010.
