Terrorism Cover - Frequently Asked Questions
Since 02 February 2006, all Travel Insurance Web policies have been sold with the following endorsement:
"This policy covers terrorism under Sections 3 - Personal Accident, 4 - Emergency Medical Expenses / Repatriation & 5 - Additional Hospital Benefit, provided there are no Nuclear, Chemical or Biological Weapons of mass destruction involved."
This page is intended to clarify exactly what is and what is not covered on a Travel Insurance Web policy in relation to an act of terrorism.

Question: If I am injured as a result of an act of terrorism while I am on my holiday, will my medical expenses be covered?
Answer: Yes, in the event that you are injured as a result of a conventional act of terrorism then any emergency medical expenses (section 4 of policy wording) incurred for treatment relating to this will be covered by your Travel Insurance Web policy. You will also be entitled to the additional hospital benefit payment (section 5 of policy wording) contributing towards expenses incurred while you are an inpatient. Furthermore, you will be entitled to the personal accident benefits (section 3 of policy wording) payable as a result of any injury you sustain following a conventional terrorism incident.
Importantly, you are not covered for the above if the terrorist event involves nuclear, biological or chemical weapons of mass destruction. It is also worth bearing in mind that other exclusions may apply, so you are strongly advised to read carefully your policy wording for the details of cover levels as well as any other such exclusions applying to your policy.

Question: If I am injured in a terrorist incident before my holiday and this causes me to have to cancel my holiday, will the cost of cancellation be covered?
Answer: No, acts of terrorism are excluded from the cancellation section (section 1) of your policy, so the cancellation of your holiday under these circumstances would not be covered by your Travel Insurance Web policy. Furthermore, if you have to cut short a holiday (section 2 of policy wording) as a result of a terrorist incident, the costs of the unused portion of your holiday will not be covered by your Travel Insurance Web policy.

Question: If an act of terrorism causes me to miss my departure, be delayed or forces me to abandon my travel plans will my policy cover this?
Answer: No, if an act of terrorism means that, for example, you can’t get to the airport and miss your flight (section 10 of policy wording), or that your departure is delayed (section 9 of policy wording), then the expenses resulting from this will not be covered by the policy. Equally, if you decide after 24 hours of delay, resulting from an act of terrorism, to abandon your holiday, then the costs of this will not be covered by your travel insurance policy.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You are strongly advised to read carefully your Travel Insurance Web policy wording in conjunction with the above endorsement prior to buying travel insurance in order to ensure that you are adequately covered in accordance with your personal needs and requirements.
