Kani Lanka Resort & Spa, Sri Lanka

Hidden among coconut groves, this hip hotel has a totally chilled vibe that will help couples recover from the Big Day. And if atmosphere alone won't unwind you, head to the Kani Spa, which offers a range of yummy treatments.. Explore further afield on this tear-drop of an island in the Indian Ocean and you'll discover that it was made for romance. Take an elephant ride for two along the beach, hire a hot air balloon to drift over the Sigiriya Rock Fortress or the Udawalawe National Park or take a night time hike up Adam's Peak, arriving at sunrise.

Lizard Creek Lodge, Fernie, Canada

A winter wedding means you can roll your honeymoon into your annual winter sports holiday, and there are few more fantastic places to ski or ride than North America. One of the most romantic resorts has to be Fernie in Canada - it's a little off the beaten track but its isolation means there's little to disturb newly-weds. Lizard Creek Lodge has offers accommodation in luxurious studios and apartments. Couples can dine alone or book a table in the gourmet restaurant. There's an outdoor pool and hot tub and to really get you in the mood for love, you can book an in-room massage.

Sandals, Caribbean

Few places are more dedicated to couples in love than Sandals all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean. From the king-size beds to the gourmet dining, everything is luxurious and there are no kids or groups to shatter the peace, just lots of other loved-up couples. Honeymooners get a chilled bottle of fizz on arrival, petals on their pillows and breakfast in bed on the first morning as long as their stay is within 30 days of their wedding.

Honeymoon deals are few and far between but right now Sandals is offering up to 25% off for bookings made by November 18 for travel up to December 26. The Honeymoon One Bedroom Beachfront St Lucian Suite on the island of St Lucia now costs £1,902pp for 7 nights. So any grooms getting married in the next few weeks who haven't booked the honeymoon yet had better pick up the phone. Windstar Cruise, Europe

The most romantic honeymoon cruise has to be aboard one of Windstar's tall sailing ships. They are so small, each carrying between 148 and 300 passengers, that it feels like having your own private yacht and yet there are enough crew on board to wait on you hand and foot. Plus, they call at some of the most romantic destinations on the planet, including Venice and Rome in the Mediterranean and the smaller Caribbean islands such as St Thomas and Nevis. Santorini, Greece

With its breathtaking landscape, vast blue skies and indigo sea, the Greek island of Santorini is hard to beat for a honeymoon close to home. There's lots of romantic accommodation to choose from but particularly recommended are the Galaxy Luxury Suites, which sit on the crest of Santorini's Caldera (volcano). Choose one of the Cave Suites, which used to be wine cellars, one of which has a jacuzzi, or go for a Modern Suite which is in the traditional Greek style with a contemporary twist.
