Some of The Best Budget Airlines

You can fly to Europe for less than the cost of an M&S sandwich — but the low fares don't stop there. If you want to travel within continental Europe, visiting two or more places in one trip, you can find cheap flights if you know where to look. Here we list some of the best budget airlines that will fly you around Europe for a snip.

Clickair

Clickair Airlines

Known for offering cheap flights from London and Edinburgh to mainland Spain, this airline also has a large network of domestic flights with laughably low fares, making it easy and affordable for you to combine a city break in say Barcelona with a week at a beach resort on a Spanish island. A one-way flight from Edinburgh to Barcelona costs from 50€ (£40) and an onward flight to Minorca costs from 30€ (£24). A single flight from London costs from 50€ (£40); a flight from Seville to Tenerife or Gran Canaria costs from 43€ (£34).

Clickair also operates a number of international flights from Spain, mainly to Western and Eastern Europe.

Spanair

Spanair Airlines

Also a great airline for those who want a city/beach combo, such as Madrid twinned with the Canaries or Barcelona followed by a week in the Balearcis. Spanair has cheap flights to 34 destinations, mainly within mainland Spain and the Spanish islands though it also operates a handful of international flights, such as from Germany, Switzerland and Scandinavia to Tenerife.

One way fares from Madrid to Majorca start at 60€ (£48); Bilbao to Majorca costs just 24€ (£19); fares from Valencia to Gran Canaria cost from 92€ (£74).

Myair

Myair Budget Airlines

This fledgling Italian airline offers budget flights to about two dozen domestic and international destinations. Its cheap fares allow you to combine a city break in Venice with a beach holiday in Sardinia or Ibiza, or a shopping trip to Milan with a few days chilling on the Italian Riviera. Fares from Venice to Olbia in Sardinia start at 19€, 45€ (£36) with taxes; a flight from Milan to Naples costs from 9€, 34€ (£27) with taxes.

Sterling

Sterling Airlines

This carrier flies from London, East Midlands and Edinburgh to various Scandinavian destinations and onwards to Eastern and Western Europe and the Mediterranean. It's a useful airline if you want to combine different countries within Scandinavia, for example Denmark and Sweden or Norway and Sweden or you want to travel east from Scandinavia to Hungary, the Czech Republic or Poland.

One way flights from Copenhagen to Stockholm start at a ridiculous 2DKK (about 20p) but obligatory taxes push the cheapest fare up to a still very reasonable 175DKK (£18-£19).

Air Berlin

Air Berlin

You can fly from London and Manchester to Germany from £24 on Air Berlin, which operates domestic flights to almost every German city and beyond into Eastern and Western Europe, the Mediterranean and long-haul as far as southeast Asia and the Indian Ocean. Fancy combining the Oktoberfest in Munich with a few days in Berlin? One way flights between the two start at 1€ and even with the taxes and hefty fuel surcharge of 25€ included still make it only 29€ (£23).
